Pools & Poolscapes
Inground Pool Installation Designed for Long Island Outdoor Living
Design That Flows With the Land
A pool should feel like it belongs, part of the landscape, not apart from it. At Gary Duff Designs, we create custom swimming pools and poolscapes that merge architecture, environment, and lifestyle. For fifty years, our family has designed and built pools and spas across Long Island, NY, each one crafted for balance, beauty, and longevity.

Inground Pool and Poolscape Guidance from Gary Duff Designs
A pool reshapes the whole property, not just the space it occupies. Here's what homeowners weigh before starting one.
-
Gary Duff Designs builds custom gunite pools, fiberglass pools, and pool and spa combinations sized to the property and the way you plan to use them. Gunite allows fully custom shapes, depths, and integrated features, while fiberglass installs faster with a smoother surface and lighter ongoing upkeep. Spa integration, tanning ledges, and automatic covers are decided during design because each one affects the structure underneath. Which type suits you depends on your site, your timeline, and how much design freedom the space calls for.
-
Every pool at Gary Duff Designs is drawn as part of a complete poolscape rather than positioned first and landscaped around afterward. Elevation, sightlines from the house, sun exposure through the day, and prevailing wind all shape where the water goes and which direction it faces. Surrounding plantings, grade transitions, and screening determine whether the pool feels integrated or simply dropped into the yard. Getting that relationship right before excavation is what separates a poolscape from a pool.
-
Pool decks, patios, coping, and retaining work are all designed and built by Gary Duff Designs as part of the same project. Handling the surround ourselves means the drainage, elevations, and material transitions are resolved on one set of drawings instead of negotiated between separate contractors. Lighting, fencing, and planting beds get planned at the same stage so conduit and irrigation go in before the hardscape is set. One team through the whole project is also why there is one number to call when a question comes up.
-
Maintenance depends on the pool type, the surface material, and the equipment specified during design. Gary Duff Designs selects finishes, filtration, and automation suited to Long Island's season length, since a pool here spends several months closed and needs to open cleanly each spring. Automatic covers, efficient circulation, and quality sanitization equipment reduce weekly upkeep considerably. Winterization and opening are annual realities on this island, and we make sure you know what that involves before you commit.
-
Pool pricing separates first by construction type, with gunite carrying a higher investment than fiberglass because of the structural work involved. Depth, shape complexity, spa integration, and equipment automation all move the number, as does the surround, which frequently represents a substantial share of the total budget. Site access matters more on pool projects than nearly any other work, since limited equipment access changes excavation cost significantly. Gary Duff Designs takes on select projects starting at $10K and gives clear guidance on scope during your consultation.
